How
I Started Hemstitching
A friend
of mine ask me if I could help her with a project: Someone
had taught her how to hemstitch and she had forgotten how.
I had never heard of hemstitching before, but I told her
I would be happy to try to help her.
She
brought me some material with holes around the edges and
some thread and a hook. After looking at it, I told her
that it must be crocheting that you do around it.
No,
she was sure it wasn't called crocheting, it was hemstitching.
I studied the material and then started single crocheting
around it.
She
took one look and said, "That's it! I told you it wasn't
crocheting!"
I found
out that she had been given the material by someone in Utah,
so the next time that my parents went there I ask my Mom
to pick up a few pieces for me. That's all it took to hook
me. Soon I was asking everyone who went to Utah to stop
and get me some more material.
It
was frustrating to wait sometimes months for friend and
family trips to Utah. So finally I called and ask the company
to mail me their hemstitched material, only to be told that
they didn't mail anything.
I ask
if they would mail materials to me if I bought a hundred
dollars' worth.
They
said no.
I asked
if they would mail one hundred blankets to me.
They
said no.
To
this reply, I said, "Then I will have to find my own machine!"
They
laughed and told me I would never find one.
Being
slightly stubborn, I set out to prove them wrong.
